»Nordic bohemians convince with vocal splendour«
»…a roaring success«
Sung in Italian with Swedish surtitles
A young woman knocks on the door of an attic abode in Stockholm’s Old Town and a young writer opens the door. This is the start of one of the greatest love stories of all time. Inspired by his own days as a poor student, Giacomo Puccini, with warmth and passion, depicts the lives of young dreamers, bohemians in 1800s Paris. However, this timeless story could play out anywhere.
The renowned tenor, director and conductor José Cura, shines Nordic light over Puccini’s masterpiece, moving La Bohème from Paris to a fictitious Stockholm. The writer, Rodolfo is recast as August Strindberg, the artist Marcello as Edvard Munch, the philosopher Colline as Søren Kierkegaard, the composer Schaunard as Edvard Grieg and the cabaret singer Musetta as Tulla Larsen. Staying faithful to the music and libretto in this moving, tragicomic drama, José Cura created his very own Scandinavian Bohème for the Royal Swedish Opera in 2015.
