Orlando has returned home from the war. And he, like many others, is deeply in love with Angelika. But Angelika is in love with Medoro; as is her best friend Dorinda. Angelika’s love is returned. In the forest, she carves her and Medoro’s name on a tree. Dorinda finds out. Devastated and inconsolable, she tells Orlando. Orlando sees their carved names on the tree and is driven to madness. He wants to destroy everything that crosses his path. When Orlando’s emotions are at their worst, Zoroastro the sorcerer tries to put everything right with his magic powers. But, as often happens when adults get involved, he just adds fuel to the fire...
What happens if you can’t have the one you love? In this adaptation of Handel’s opera, we follow a story of jealousy, madness, love and youth against the backdrop of war. Together, composer Johan Ramström, dramatist Sophie Helsing and director Ellen Lamm, have created a performance inspired by the medieval epic poem The Song of Roland and 1700s aesthetics as well as modern TV series.
The performance is suitable for secondary school students.
