RIGOLETTO – Verdi's opera about power and powerlessness, revenge and a family curse

A duke who is a reveller and who gets what he wants. A jester and over-protective father who incites violence at court. A daughter who wants to see the world and falls head over heels in love.  Together and separately the are cursed, with disastrous consequences...

Rigoletto is one of Verdi’s darkest, most dramatic and most frequently performed operas with its immortal music and a gripping plot. Sofia Jupither’s production from 2020 features powerful men and vulnerable women in a world dominated by fear. The director has adapted the 2020 production to the present situation, with distance between the singers and the orchestra. The result is as outstanding as the premiere two years earlier. In the role of Rigoletto we see court singer Karl-Magnus Fredriksson, who made a much acclaimed appearance at the premiere in 2018. The young soprano Hanna Husáhr is making a much-anticipated debut as Gilda.
