Italian conductor and composer Andrea Molino was born in Turin and studied in Turin, Milan, Venice and Paris. He works internationally across opera, orchestral and contemporary music and has conducted at many of the world’s leading opera houses and concert venues.
Andrea Molino made his debut as a conductor at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2019 with Karol Szymanowski’s Król Roger. In 2023, he conducted the world premiere of Mikael Karlsson’s Melancholia. In autumn 2026, he returns to the Royal Swedish Opera to conduct the work again. Other notable opera productions include Alban Berg’s Wozzeck, directed by William Kentridge, and Shostakovich’s Nos, directed by Barrie Kosky, at the Sydney Opera House, as well as Carmen, Tosca, La bohème, Un ballo in maschera and Macbeth for Opera Australia. At the Royal Opera House in London, he conducted the world premiere of Cathy Marston’s ballet The Cellist.
Molino has worked with orchestras including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Royal Swedish Orchestra. He has appeared at festivals and venues including the Berliner Festspiele, Edinburgh International Festival, Sydney Festival, Copenhagen Opera Festival and the Venice Biennale.
Contemporary music has a central place in Molino’s artistic work. He has conducted works by composers including Luciano Berio, Bruno Maderna, Heiner Goebbels and Daníel Bjarnason. At Teatro La Fenice in Venice in 2010, he conducted the world premiere of Maderna’s Requiem, a recording of which was later awarded the Italian critics’ Premio Abbiati.
As a composer, Andrea Molino has created works for orchestra and voices as well as electronics and video. His works include CREDO, WINNERS, the smiling carcass, Those Who Speak in a Faint Voice, Of Flowers And Flames, The Garden of Forking Paths and La vérité, pas toute. His music has been performed at festivals and venues throughout Europe and Australia.
