Swedish soprano Ingela Brimberg is internationally acclaimed for her interpretations of some of the most demanding dramatic soprano roles in the operatic repertoire. She has collaborated with conductors including Marc Minkowski, Donald Runnicles, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding, François-Xavier Roth, Sakari Oramo and Pablo Heras-Casado.
Brimberg made her Royal Swedish Opera debut in spring 2013 as Ellen Orford in Britten’s Peter Grimes. She has since returned to the company as Brünnhilde in Wagner’s Die Walküre.
In recent seasons, Brimberg has sung the title role in Elektra at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg under Alan Gilbert, at the Edinburgh International Festival and at Deutsche Oper am Rhein. She has appeared as Brünnhilde in Die Walküre with the Taiwan Philharmonic and toured Belgium and Spain performing Wagner with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer. Other recent roles include Senta in Der fliegende Holländer at Oper Leipzig and the title roles in Elektra and Turandot in Geneva.
Brimberg’s repertoire also includes Isolde in Tristan und Isolde, Brünnhilde in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung, Salome, Tosca, Aida, Leonore in Fidelio and Katerina Ismailova in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. She has appeared at opera houses including La Monnaie in Brussels, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Real in Madrid, Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Hamburg, Oper Köln and Göteborg Opera.
In the 2026/27 season, Brimberg makes her house debut at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, as well as her role debut as Kostelnička in Janáček’s Jenůfa. On the concert platform, she makes her role debut as The Woman in Schoenberg’s Erwartung in a concert co-produced by the Belgian National Orchestra and La Monnaie. She also gives a recital with pianist Julius Drake at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.
Brimberg has also appeared in concert with ensembles including the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lille, the Philharmonia Orchestra and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. At the Royal Albert Hall in London, she has performed scenes from Wagner with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
