Thomas Guggeis has emerged as one of the most compelling conductors of his generation. Equally at home in the opera house and the concert hall, he has developed a strong international profile with engagements across Europe and beyond. Guggeis has served as Generalmusikdirektor of Oper Frankfurt and Artistic Director of the Frankfurter Museumsorchester since the 2023/24 season. In Frankfurt’s 2025/26 season, he conducts new productions of Così fan tutte, Boris Godunov, and Turandot, as well as revivals of Peter Grimes and Tristan und Isolde, and a series of Museumskonzerte featuring works by Richard Strauss, Shostakovich, Haydn, Beethoven, and Mahler. He also returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper for Salome and to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden for Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

Beyond Frankfurt, Guggeis makes his concert debuts this season with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest (Netherlands), the San Diego Symphony, the SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart, and the Orchestre national de Lyon. Further appearances include returns to the Orchestre national de France, concerts with the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra, the Boulez Ensemble Berlin, and Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium at the Isarphilharmonie München.

Over the past seasons in Frankfurt, Guggeis has conducted critically acclaimed new productions of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Lulu, Macbeth, Parsifal, Der Rosenkavalier, Le Grand Macabre, Don Carlos, Le nozze di Figaro, Tannhäuser, and Elektra.

His additional opera credits include Der fliegende Holländer at the Metropolitan Opera, Die Entführung aus dem Serail at Teatro alla Scala, and numerous productions at the Wiener Staatsoper (Salome, La traviata, Ariadne auf Naxos, Falstaff, Die tote Stadt), the Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Der Ring des Nibelungen, Katja Kabanová, Don Giovanni, Elektra, Falstaff, Daphne, Salome, Samson et Dalila, La traviata, Der fliegende Holländer, Die Zauberflöte, Lohengrin, Ariadne auf Naxos, Hänsel und Gretel, Don Giovanni, Elektra, Falstaff, Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), and the Theater an der Wien (Peter Grimes, Oberon).

In concert, he has led the Wiener Philharmoniker at the Mozartwoche in Salzburg, Bayerisches Staatsorchester, Staatskapelle Dresden, Staatskapelle Berlin, Münchner Philharmoniker, Wiener Symphoniker, Orchestre de Paris, Cleveland Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Dresdner Philharmonie, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Orchestra della Toscana, Berner Symphonieorchester, Essener Philharmoniker, and Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester, among others.

Earlier in his career, Guggeis was Staatskapellmeister at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and First Kapellmeister at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. He studied conducting in Munich and Milan.
