Stage:
From poetic beauty to pulsating energy. In Playlist, George Balanchine and William Forsythe come together in three works that reveal the full range of ballet – from romantic longing and classical virtuosity to the sheer joy of dance.
George Balanchine changed ballet forever. In Serenade, one of his most iconic works, emotions of love, longing and loss emerge from Tchaikovsky’s music and the dancers’ shifting formations. In Theme and Variations, he celebrates the technique of classical ballet with dazzling precision and virtuosity.
With William Forsythe’s Playlist (Track 1, 2), the energy shifts. Set to neo-soul and house music, classical technique meets a pulsating contemporary expression. Twelve male dancers fill the stage with power, playfulness and infectious joy in a work acclaimed for its musicality and explosive energy.
Three works. Three temperaments. One evening that brings together two innovators of ballet – revealing how one generation’s vision inspires the next.
