Gunilla Hammar trained at the Stockholm Ballet Academy 1981-84.
Soloist dancer in the Cullberg Ballet 1987-2005, where she danced many leading roles such as the title role in Giselle, Queen Silvia in Sleeping Beauty, The Birthday Present and The Queen in Swan Lake, among others. She has worked with choreographers Mats Ek, Birgit Cullberg, Jirí Kylián, William Forsyth, Ohad Naharin, Christopher Bruce, Carolyn Carlson, Nacho Duato, Stijn Celis, Johan Inger, Per Jonsson to name a few. Participated in TV productions such as Swan Lake, Mats Ek, SVT/Drama (1990), Carmen, Mats Ek, SVT/Drama (1994) Winner of the International Emmy Awards 1995. Sleeping Beauty, Mats Ek, SVT/Drama (1999). Winner of the Prix d’Ialia, Music & Arts

After the Cullberg Ballet, Gunilla has continued to work as a dancer in independent productions, including Orphée, Opera av Glück directed and choreographed by Mats Ek, Royal Swedish Opera (2010), I´m not looking back choreographed by Helena Franzén Dansens Hus, The Baxter Theater in Cape Town, South Africa, etc.
Gunilla has worked as a choreographic assistant to Mats Ek at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in the production of Utvandrarna (2014-16).
She has also further trained as a dance pedagogue and subject teacher with a focus on classical ballet at SKH/SU and has pursued university studies in physiology, sports psychology and art history. Gunilla has been teaching at professional dance education programs in Stockholm since 2006.
