Jonathan Koppel is a young tenor who has gained an exciting reputation with critically-acclaimed performances in his native Scandinavia. He is the grandson of the soprano Lone Koppel and the tenor Willy Hartmann, and the son of the tenor Thomas Peter Koppel. He currently studies with Audrey Saint-Gil.
In the past three years, he has made debuts at the Den Kongelige Opera in Copenhagen as Pjotr Fjodorovitj, Jarywitj and a Eunuk in Die Nase, and as Tamino at both the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and Den Jyske Opera in Aarhus.
He returned to Den Kongelige Opera in season 2023/24 to sing Tamino. He has also toured with Den Kongelige Opera on two occasions.
Jonathan Koppel studied at The Royal Danish Academy Of Music, and with Reinaldo Macias, Helena Kaupóva, and Iris Dell’Acqua. He has performed regularly on professional stages since childhood.
Further engagements include: Tamino at the Danish Freemasons’ Hall and Den Ny Opera, Normanno and Le Remendado at Opera Hedeland, Torquemada (L’heure espagnole) with the Copenhagen Phil (cond. Lawrence Foster) and Fenton at Den Ny Opera in Esbjerg.
Further performed repertoire also includes: Camille de Rosillion, Alfred, and Gastone.
On the concert platform, he has performed as tenor soloist in Bach's B minor Mass, Christmas Oratorio, and Magnificat in D; Dvorak's Stabat Mater; Händel's The Messiah; Haydn's Die Schöpfung; Mozart's Coronation Mass, Mass in C major, and the Requiem; Nielsen's Fynsk Forår; Puccini's Messa di Gloria, and Rossini's Petite Messe Solonnelle.
His extensive Lieder repertoire includes songs by Schubert, Schumann, Richard Strauss and Beethoven, as well as Italian Compazizioni da camera and Spanish canciones.
Season 25/26 engagements include a return to the Royal Swedish Opera as Tamino, as well as concerts and oratorios throughout Scandinavia.
