Jori Klomp was born and raised in Belgium and began his master’s studies in Choral Conducting at the Conservatory of Utrecht (Netherlands) in 2016 under Rob Vermeulen, following the completion of his bachelor’s degrees in Classical Singing and Classical Saxophone at the Conservatory of Maastricht in 2014.

After four years of service with the Dutch Military Orchestra, Jori decided to fully dedicate his career to his greatest passion: choral music. In 2018, he was appointed Chorus Master at Theater Aachen (Germany), where he was responsible for the theatre's four choruses and regularly conducted productions and concerts. His work there included leading operas such as The Indian Queen by Purcell, Die Zauberflöte by Mozart, and La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein by Offenbach, as well as concert performances of works like Bach’s Mass in B minor, Franck’s Messe in A, and various children’s choir programs.

During his time in Aachen, Jori was also a regular guest conductor at major opera houses. He conducted productions at La Monnaie in Brussels — such as Shostakovich’s The Nose — as well as at Opera Zuid, where he for example led Kurt Weill’s Lady in the Dark. At Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in Antwerp, he conducted Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, one of his personal favorites.

As a freelance choral conductor, Jori has led ensembles such as the Belgian national youth choir BEvocaL and the youth choir of La Monnaie. He has also prepared choirs for institutions including the WDR Rundfunkchor, Brabant Koor and the AdMosam Baroque Ensemble.
