Dutch-Canadian tenor Lucas van Lierop makes his Royal Swedish Opera debut in autumn 2026 as soloist in Benjamin Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, performing with the Royal Swedish Orchestra under Music Director Alan Gilbert.
Van Lierop trained at McGill University and Yale University, as well as at the Dutch National Opera Studio under the direction of Rosemary Joshua. He is a frequent guest at Dutch National Opera, where his roles have included Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Spoletta in Tosca, Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro and Bob Boles in Peter Grimes. He also created the role of Man Ray in Willem Jeths’s opera Ritratto.
In the 2024/25 season, he made his Salzburg Festival debut in Richard Strauss’s Capriccio under Christian Thielemann and his Theater Basel debut as Pong in Turandot. He has since made his Bayerische Staatsoper debut as Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos and has also appeared there in Salome.
On the concert stage, Lucas van Lierop has performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko in Elektra, with Kent Nagano in Hans Abrahamsen’s The Snow Queen, and with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest in Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten. His repertoire ranges from Bach and Handel to Britten and contemporary music.
