Before the Opera House closes for renovation, we invite you to a weekend like no other. On 28 and 29 November, discover the building in new ways, visit places rarely seen by audiences and join us in saying goodbye – until we meet here again.
Saturday November 28
Discover the Opera House with the whole family
On Saturday morning, we open the Opera House to children and adults curious to discover what lies beyond the familiar auditoriums and foyers. Join a family tour through unusual and hidden parts of the building!
During the morning, you can also try on costumes from the Royal Swedish Opera’s costume collection and make your own shadow-puppet character before bringing it to life in the Young Opera’s shadow theatre.
The family tour, costume try-on and shadow-puppet workshop are all included in the same ticket. Please note that your ticket specifies a start time for the guided tour (at 10, 11 a.m. or Noon), while the shadow-puppet workshop and costume try-on are open throughout the morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Ghost tour – a spooky investigation after dark
When darkness falls, the Opera House is empty – but perhaps not entirely deserted. Join us on a ghost tour through the building’s shadowy corners, where cultural history meets ghost lore and opera. A guide with a fascination for the supernatural leads a playfully paranormal investigation, sharing ghost stories connected to Stockholm’s Opera House.
As you make your way through the deserted building, eerie phenomena and brief musical and theatrical encounters await. Is it simply an old theatre creaking – or is someone still here?
The ghost tours last approximately 45 minutes and depart every 15 minutes between 7.30 p.m. and 10.15 p.m. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
The tour involves many stairs and some crouching in low passageways.
Sunday November 29
Discover the Opera House – and take a memory home
På söndagen fortsätter de guidade visningarna genom ovanliga delar av Operahuset. Följ med bortom de vanliga publikområdena och upptäck mer av huset innan det töms inför renoveringen.
In connection with the guided tour, you can also visit our flea market on the Third Tier, where we have gathered all kinds of little “opera things” from departments throughout the building that will not be coming with us when we move. Here you might find something with sentimental value – a small memento of the Opera House to take home.
The items are given away free of charge, but you are warmly welcome to make a voluntary donation to the Royal Swedish Opera’s funds if you wish.
The Opera House Farewell Concert
The weekend comes to a close on the Main Stage with The Opera House Farewell Concert. The Royal Swedish Orchestra, Royal Swedish Opera Chorus and soloists join Alan Gilbert and Jacob Mühlrad in bidding farewell to the building with music by Mozart, Dvořák, Puccini, Haydn and Mühlrad.
The concert is performed at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
