Three powerful contemporary voices generously share their experiences and perspectives on opera today.
Meet the Russian-British composer Elena Langer in a conversation about her work Figaro Gets a Divorce and the ideas that have shaped its music and narrative. Hear Elena discuss how she approached the challenging task of creating new music for characters the audience already knows well – figures with a deeply rooted musical legacy from both Mozart and Rossini.
As part of the programme, soprano Vera Talerko and pianist Krystian Bellière will perform an excerpt from the opera.
The conversation then expands as two additional composers join: Britta Byström – most recently featured at the Royal Swedish Opera with the Sámi opera Eatnama váibmu (The Heart of the Earth) – and Andrea Tarrodi, who has written the children’s opera Lost (Vilse) for Young Opera and is currently featured at Folkoperan with the opera cabaret I Am Ulla Winblad. Together, the three composers discuss what it means to create opera today: their motivations, artistic expression, and their views on the genre’s development. Moderated by Jenny Mattsson.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear three powerful contemporary voices generously share their experiences and perspectives on opera today.
