IL BARBIERE
DI SIVIGLIA
Figaro takes care of business!
»Luthando Qave is one of the most interesting opera voices we have on Swedish stages right now«
»the humour is maintained in Rossini's brilliantly funny music, finely utilised by the ensemble and orchestra«
»Catchy, street-smart The Barber of Seville«
»Dara Savinova, a beautiful mezzo voice who, with an even sound in all registers, plays her way through the role's virtuoso series«
»both the ensemble and the orchestra and conductor Vincenzo Milletarì keep the comic nerve tense throughout the performance«
One of the greatest opera classics of all time is back at the Royal Swedish Opera – in a new guise. Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rossini’s masterpiece of comedy, is not only a work of sublime farce, but also a story of male friendship, class, the young generation versus the old and a young woman’s struggle for freedom. Inspired by commedia dell’arte and the idea of the house as a place charged with symbolic meaning, director Linus Fellbom, stage designer Julia Przedmojska and costume designer Lena Lindgren explore in depth one of our most beloved operas, vitalise it and make it sparkle.
In his version Linus Fellbom – known to the Royal Swedish Opera audience for his direction of the success Dracula – focuses on the fact that Rossini’s opera is based on the first volume of a trilogy of plays by the French 18th century playwright Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais. First out is Il Barbiere di Siviglia followed next season by the sequel Le Nozze di Figaro. Luthando Qave sings the role of the scheming barber Figaro, Konu Kim appears as Count Almaviva and Rosina is portrayed by Dara Savinova.
