Johan Schinkler (bass) received his training at the University College of Opera, Stockholm. At the Royal Swedish Opera he has sung Daland in Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer in 1995 and Le fauteuil/L'arbre in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges in 2005. In the 2025/2026 season he will return to the Royal Swedish Opera to sing the King in Aida.
At the Gothenburg Opera, Schinkler has sung the title role in Béla Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle, Daland in Der fliegende Holländer and Pogner in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. At the Folkoperan in Stockholm, he has sung Leporello in Peter Stormare's production of Don Giovanni, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Mephistopheles in Faust, Kaspar in Der Freischütz and the four villains in Les contes d'Hoffmann.
At the Värmlands Opera, he has sung Gurnemanz in Parsifal and Fafner and Hagen in the acclaimed production of Wagner's Ring.
At the Latvian National Opera in Riga he sang Hagen in Götterdämmerung in 2011/2012, a role he also performed with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Kent Nagano. The following season he was invited back to Riga to perform Hunding in Die Walküre and again Hagen in Götterdämmerung.
Later engagements include Gremin in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at the Opera de Rennes, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte at the Gothenburg Opera, Priest Fotis in Martinu's The Greek Passion at the Värmlandsoperan and in spring 2018 Varlaam in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov at the Gothenburg Opera. In autumn 2018 he performed the title role in Don Quichotte at the Folkoperan in Stockholm and in 2020 King Marke in Tristan und Isolde.
