The Opera Studio of the Royal Swedish Opera and the Wall Foundation, Wallstudion, is a two-year program designed for singers with formal training in opera who are ready to take the next step toward a professional career.

The new studio aims to create opportunities for more emerging singers to develop their talents and take the first steps into the profession whilst at the same time strengthening the future of opera as a whole in Sweden. The Royal Swedish Opera is in a unique position to offer the participants coaching, training and mentorship by not only using their own resources but also by engaging international artists of the very highest caliber. Four singers will be admitted every second year to this two-year full-time program, which is fully funded by the Anders Wall Foundation. The first program begins in autumn 2026 and is a fully paid, two-year engagement.

The program includes:

  • Individual coaching and mentorship
  • Stagecraft, language training, workshops and masterclasses
  • Own roles and understudy in opera productions at the Royal Swedish Opera
  • Participation in opera productions and concerts on smaller stages
  • Prerequisites for building strong relevant networks
»Our foundation has supported young singers with scholarships for many years. I wouldn't be where I am today without the support in my youth from people who saw my potential. This is a way to give back and show gratitude..«

Four young singers ready for Wallstudion

Over 250 singers from all over Europe applied for the program, and of these, 36 were invited to audition. After careful consideration, the jury selected four singers who will be offered a two-year full-time position starting July 1, 2026 at the Royal Swedish Opera, made possible by the donation from the Anders Wall Foundation.

Minna Tägil, Wilma Kvamme, Karl Söderström and Jane Burnell will begin the two-year program at Wallstudion this autumn. The four have been accepted after an extensive selection process with many applicants and will be the first to be selected in the initiative that gives the next generation of artists a unique platform to develop in the art of opera.

On the jury for selection to Wallstudion:

  • Tobias Theorell, Opera Director, Royal Swedish Opera
  • Alan Gilbert, Music Director, Royal Swedish Opera
  • Mattias Böhm, Artistic Director, Wallstudion, Royal Swedish Opera
  • Nina Stemme, Opera Soloist
