Baritone Jens Persson Hertzman was born and raised in Södra Sandby outside Lund. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and at the Stockholm Opera Academy, from where he graduated in the spring of 2013.
Jens made his debut as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2012. Since 2015, he has been part of the soloist ensemble and has performed over 400 performances at the Royal Swedish Opera. He has sung in operas such as Maria Stuarda, Carmen, The Queen of Spades, Don Giovanni, Ariadne auf Naxos, Rigoletto, and more.
Highlights include roles such as the Count in Le nozze di Figaro, the title role in Il barbiere di Seviglia, Marcello in La bohème, Dandini in La Cenerentola and he has also returned as Papageno over the years.
Jens is frequently used in modern music and has sung the role of Leo in Mats Larsson Goethe's opera The Promise, among others. In 2023 Jens appeared in the role of Michael in the world premiere of Mikael Karlsson's acclaimed opera Melancholia.
In 2024 Jens sang a role in Arnold Schönberg's oratorio Die Jakobsleiter at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. He has also sung on other stages and performed the roles on stages such as Malmö Opera, Landestheater Detmold, Germany and Drottningholm Palace Theatre.
The concert repertoire includes Orff's Carmina Burana, Lars-Erik Larsson's Förklädd Gud and requiems by both Mozart and Fauré.
