POINTE SHOES

Our dancers depend on the condition of their pointe shoes. Good shoes are essential for every dancer’s performance and health.

In order to prevent injury and achieve their very best, female dancers spend about 45 minutes on caring for each pair. During the course of a ballet production, they make the most of their shoes by rotating between 5 or 6 pairs during rehearsals and performances. One pair of shoes can last as little as a couple of days, sometimes only a single rehearsal. Worn or damaged shoes may cause injury to the dancer – even jeopardize an entire career.

Royal Swedish Ballet dancers consume approximately 1,000 pairs of pointe shoes every season.
