Angela Rotondo
Swedish-Sicilian soprano lirico/spinto with training from the soloist class at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and studies in Italy with Gianni Iaia and Sesto Bruscantini. She has been a finalist in the Spoleto and Giuseppe di Stefano competitions and has received the Masonic scholarship in 2001 and 2019 and was Hjördis Schymbergstipendiat in 2019. Among her previous positions is Teatro Massimo Bellini (in Catania, Sicily) but has been employed at the Royal Swedish Opera since 2006.
Angela made her debut in roles such as Mimi (La bohème), Violetta (La traviata) and Abigaille (Nabucco) with Nicola Luisotti conducting. Other international engagements include Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in the Frankfurt Oper and the role of Fidelia in Puccini's opera Edgar in Vienna.
At Folkoperan in Stockholm, Angela has sung leading roles in the operas Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor, Un ballo in maschera, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Così fan tutte, as well as the role of Freja and Woglinde in Das Rheingold and Beatrice in Sven-David Sandström's opera Jeppe.
Angela has also sung the roles of Imogene from Bellini's opera Il Pirata, Elvira in Ernani, and Wally and La Gioconda. Angela also sang Donna Anna with Peter Mattei during the Mattei Festival.
At the Royal Swedish Opera, Angela has sung the lead roles Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Maddalena di Coigny (Andrea Chenier) and covered the lead roles Lady Macbeth, Lina (Stiffelio) and cover for Nina Stemme as Minnie (La Fanciulla del West). In 2018, she made her debut as Tosca (Puccini) in Knut Hendriksen's production and played the role of A Priestess in the new production of Aida (Verdi).
In the 2023-24 season, she will play the role of the Overseer in Richard Strauss's Elektra.
